Springtime marks the beginning of the picnic season and the easter holidays allow many of us to enjoy the outdoors for a couple of free days. We hope that our following ideas for your easter picnic will provide some useful inspiration!
1. THE PICNIC COMPANY
In-laws, children, parents, neighbours, your partner and friends…who are you taking with you for your easter picnic? Think about this first, since it will have an effect on everything else you will arrange. Consider their individual needs concerning mobility, food allergies, timing, etc.
2. CHOOSING A FINE PICNIC LOCATION
Make yourself familiar with the location you want to go to. We think: the greener, the better, to really dive into the springtime-feeling. When selecting your easter picnic location, regard the weather forecast e.g. to avoid rain-sodden meadows. For families with kids, it could be a good solution and great fun to choose a local park that offers a public easter egg hunt or a playground.
3. SAY EASTER, SAY EGGS
Eggs are iconic and an easter-picnic-must-have. Whether you like real eggs, chocolate, candy or cookie eggs, just make sure that there are some colourful eggs! An easter classic are hard-boiled and dyed chicken eggs, which are absolutely picnic suitable too (remember to bring along some seasoning as well).

4. EASTER THEMED FOOD
Depending on your origins, you might already have set your mind on certain easter delicacies. Now adapt them to be picnic friendly, example: thinking of baking easter bread, you could make individual, portion sized easter buns from the same dough. Traditionally, easter food symbolizes renewal and fruitfulness, so serving something fresh and bright enhances atmosphere and appetites: fresh vegetables like cucumber, carrots, celery, asparagus or broccoli with a dip, a colourful pasta dish and fruit salad. Plus the indispensable eggs and you’re ready to serve!
5. DRINKS FOR YOUR EASTER PICNIC
Eggnog? Well, why not? But if you prefer something more refreshing, we’d recommend these simple, tasty and appealing mocktails: 1/3 fruit juice, add 1/3 water and 1/3 tonic water. Decorate with some fresh fruit and herbs. Enjoy. Cherry, grape, orange and multifruit are great for their vivid colours, but please feel free to adapt for your individual taste. In our picture we’ve used grapefruit juice, lemon juice, peach-apricot juice, and mint syrup.
5. EASTER PICNIC DECORATION
Did we say EGGS yet? If you do not wish to use real eggs for your decoration, there are alternatives: from papier mâché, to clay, to wood, to paper garlands. Plant some spring flowers in a decorative pot (so that you can enjoy them later too) and add classic easter motives like bunnies, lambs, or chicklets to spread easterly vibes at your picnic.
6. MORE COMFORT FOR YOUR PICNIC
Think about your guests: Elderly people might need chairs, younger people might need some sport and play and some adults just want to hang out and chat. The bigger the group, the more to think of, so don’t be shy to outsource and ask your family and friends if they mind bringing their own cushions, lawn games, stools, etc. And if you have not seen it yet, check out our practical two-in-one picnic carrier and table, which makes a picnicker’s life much easier!
Happy easter, have a great picnic (or two, or three, or four, …)
